I won't lie, this is an unabashed tearjerker/heartstring puller - but it doesn't wallow in the melodrama of a Hallmark Special, or play out like a made-for-TV movie.
Based on a novel, the script isn't as simple as it appears, and this explores many dynamics of the father/son relasionship, the trials of growing older, the burden of taking care of your aging parents, and the desensitized way the health care system can treat the elderly.

... and Malcolm X was certainly controversial.
I was surprised by just how much I disliked him in his early years. He was a common crook, interested only in making a fast buck. It's hard to believe, watching the first third of the film, that this man will go on to be such a powerful orator.
Ironically, it was going to prison that saved Malcolm X's life. Here he finds a mentor, who teaches him about the Muslim faith, and the Church of Islam. Malcolm becomes a true ... More |

There's no way it's been mapped out. Just look at all the unanswered questions! The numbers....Charles Whitmore....Jacob's powers....the light.....jacob visiting the candidates as children.....jacob's mother.....pregnant women dying on the island....the importance of Aaron and Walt.....the Dharma initiative....the others....who built the temples?....what was with the three toed statue?....why couldn't Jacob & smokey break "the rules"?...who was the little boy running around the island (not young Jacob, the other one)?.....why did Jacob's mom say "thank you" when smokey killed her?....why didn't we ever learn smokey's name?....if Kate was eliminated as a candidate for being a mom, why weren't the kwon's
