As Time Goes By: Complete Series 1&2
A Second Chance At Love...And Laughter.
Once upon a time, a dashing young British Army officer and a lovely student nurse fell deeply, magically in love. Then he was shipped off to Korea and they never heard from one another. Forty years later, fate brings them together again...with hilarious results.
Series 1:
In the premiere six episodes, Lionel (Geoffrey Palmer), a divorced coffee planter, returns to England to finish his memoir, My Life In Kenya. In need of a temporary secretary, he turns to a local agency, unaware it's owned by none other than his long-lost wartime sweetheart, the still beautiful and now widowed Jean (Judi Dench). Jean's incurably romantic daughter Judith (Moira Brooker) plays matchmaker for her mother and Lionel. Despite a rough start and many hilarious obstacles Jean and Lionel begin the journey of rekindling their old romance.
Series 2:
In the second season of seven episodes, Lionel and Jean's romance deepens. Lionel struggles with decisions surrounding his book while his relationship with Jean continues to grow. Lionel drives Jean nuts by fretting over encroaching old age and lost opportunities while Jean begins to feel uncomfortable about friends knowing about their youthful romance!

Intelligent, positive comedy-soap opera of sorts, transcends love as an ageless form and time as reason to come together.
The series is not an "adult" show persay, but definitely a grown-up one. This BBC production is a throwback, rekindling Judi Dench back to BBC TV. Who at the time was balancing her Theatre and Film career. "As Time Goes By" being, in my opinion, the acme of television comedy and drama. The well-told series Glimmers with hope, history lessons and family drama. A great combination!Dry wit - MaryAnn
British comedies are the only ones to get the recipe right: that ironic, dry humour that capitalizes on understatement.
Excellent acting: the cast, all of them, were so well suited to the deadpanning and subtle facial expressions to carry this off exquisitely. We loved it. We look forward to the next installment, having had only disc one so far.outstanding - paddyboy
As is often the case, the British have produced another outstanding comedy. This show is so subtle, I am not sure why I find it so funny. Judy Dench and Geoffrey Palmer interact perfectly in their roles. The daughter and secretary are also entertaining. Again, the British flair for inoffensive sexual innuendo is present, although not not to the extent of 'Are You Being Served', another great British production. Nevertheless, it is consistently hilarious and well worth watching. I am looking forward to receipt of the second disk in the series, and would definitely recommend this disc to anyone who appreciates intelligent humor.
