Avengers '68 Set #1: Vols. 1 & 2
The Original British TV Cult Classic
Volume 1:
The final season of the Avengers introduced a brand new partner to fight with the stylish super-agent John Steed. Young, beautiful, and trained by the nebulous Ministry, Tara King embarks on a series of adventures alongside the bowler-hatted battler for justice.
Game - Steed finds he has something in common with a bunch of men who have been found dead playing games.
Super Secret Cypher Snatch - Cypher HQ springs a leak. Steed and Tara mop up.
You'll Catch Your Death - Empty envelopes mailed to ear, nose and throat specialists worldwide bring a delivery of death, and Steed requests a return receipt.
Volume 2:
Only occasionally brandishing a gun - but never without his umbrella - John Steed derails the dastardly plans of devious schemers with the help of the dishy Tara King in the final season of The Avengers.
Split - "Inside Job" takes on a whole new meaning when Steed investigates murders at the Ministry of Top Secret Information.
Whoever Shot Poor George Oblique Stroke XR40 - Tara goes undercover as the niece of an American scientist to find out who "murdered" a supercomputer.
False Witness - When Lord Edgefield is accused of blackmail, the witnesses seem incapable of keeping their stories straight.

John Steed works for British Intelligence and always has a female partner. The problems he finds are always a bit odd, just on the edge of science fiction (Cyborg killers, a city built under a disused coal mine, a gang put together for adrenalin junkies, and a killer who uses a concentrated cold virus to kill his victims by having them sneeze to death). Steed is always the ultimate in culture and grace as he saves the world each week.Still the Avengers - bbould
Of course the definitive Avengers were Steed and Mrs. Peel, but Tara King is an acceptable partner for the man in the bowler hat. The stories are still "Avenger" stories with a certain surrealistic quality. Highly stylized and very much of the sixties, the Avengers is a great series that will entertain you and leave you smiling when all is said and done...even with Tara King.Tara wasn't that bad - Gaucho
I actually like Tara King, despite the many attacks and criticisms her character has received through the decades. True, she isn't Emma Peel...but she's also a heck of a lot better than Cathy Gale. It's worth a watch. The plots are still good and Linda Thorson does bring a lot of charm to the role. John Steed is still Steed, classic and likeable. Worth a check out.
