Band Of Brothers
The HBO Miniseries...
Based on the bestseller by Stephen E. Ambrose, Band Of Brothers tells the story of Easy Company, 506th Regiment of the 101st Airborne Division, U.S. Army. Drawn from interviews with survivors of Easy Company, as well as soldiers' journals and letters, Band Of Brothers chronicles the experiences of these men who knew extraordinary bravery and extraordinary fear. They were an elite rifle company parachuting into France early on D-Day morning, fighting in the Battle of the Bulge and capturing Hitler's Eagle's Nest at Berchtesgaden. They were also a unit that suffered 150 percent causalities, and whose lives became legend.

I don't think it is an exaggeration to call this series a masterpiece. It is a wonderfully told story about human beings at war. The characters are deep and the overall storyline is well written. Many episodes explore specific themes through various characters and that adds even more insight as you follow the company during the war.
It is must see viewing for every adult.Instant Classic - FieroGT
This series is one of the best world war 2 movies I have seen. To follow these guys through all their experiences from boot camp to the end of the war is just a masterpiece of filmaking. Band of Brothers is one of Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks pinicle achievements. I am anxiously awaiting the Pacific their newest series. The effects here are nothing short of brutally real they went way over the top and I am sure the real thing was 10 time worse. The topper here was the real men introducing each episode.
Fantastic piece of cinema. Will be hard to ever beat - saint_angrrr
This is not "hollywood" trying to be profound... this is the real thing. In this set of discs, you follow Easy company of the (eventually becomes) 101st airborne from their beginnings in boot camp, to the end of the war.
The acting in this movie was 100% perfect. Each actor played his "character" with care, respect and depth (these aren't made up characters, they are telling the story of the actual men that were there)
The action can be quite graphic at some points, but they are careful not to do it just for the sake of gore. They are telling the stories like it was back then, and want to make it as realistic as possible. You feel like you are right there, all that is missing is the smells.
You cannot help but become attached to these guys after looking through the window of their lives for so long. I actually found myself mourning the deaths of these guys, which is what they were trying to achieve I am sure. What better tribute to a fallen brother in arms than to make future generations see what happens to good men when things go very badly.
The most touching parts of all to me, are the interviews with actual combat vets... how they still weep even after all these years. I am so grateful to everyone that sacrificed so much in that war, and also to the people that made sure to bring the story forward for us to see on film. If this doesn't make you appreciate what you have, I don't know what ever will.
As war movies go... this is the best that has ever been and will be hard to even come close to again.
Nothing has ever moved me and inspired me the way this series has done. It made me want to shake the hand and bow to every vet that went overseas.
