Monty Python's Flying Circus: The Complete Series
Monty Python's chief weapon is surprise. And silliness. Their two weapons are surprise and silliness. And men in drag. Their three weapons are surprise, silliness and men in drag. And bizarre animation. Their FOUR chief weapons... Oh, bloody hell.
As young men, Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin showed tremendous promise as gifted comic artists. Then they created Monty Python's Flying Circus - very possibly the most tragic waste of Oxbridge education ever broadcast. If your television ever produces the sight or sound of rich drama or accomplished acting, there is most assuredly something drastically wrong with your set.
But it is clear: no programme in the history of television has brought such enlightenment to the common man. Monty Python's Flying Circus provides a veritable university education in cultural literacy - tailored, of course, to suit those not quite done with evolution.
The World will never forget Monty Python's Flying Circus. But perhaps, someday, we'll forgive.

A lot of friends seem to think Monty Python is hilarious. I admit, they have had some classic sketches that were very funny. But, it's very hit or miss. I watched all of episode 4, and found it to be such a waste of my time, I didn't want to give the rest a chance. Perhaps I'm being overly judgmental of one episode, but I fail to see how any of the sketches were remotely funny.Used to be a fan, but not any more - Blob
I think everyone should give monty python. I used to watch the series on TV ages ago, a lot. However as time goes by, I can't watch it anymore. Still a few funny bits, however total recall tends to ruin most of them.
So give it a shot, but you might find your memory of the skits better than the reality if you are a fan. Anyways, all the good stuff is probably on youtube by now.Nice to see first episode - Sparkie
What struck me about this video was the consistency. Right from the opening scene of episode 1 it is pure python. I was also surprised that my kids enjoyed watching it too.
The color and clarity of the episodes was really surprising. I expected the grainy washed-out colors of the films shown on PBS, instead this DVD had vibrant clear color and good sound.
The added/bonus features of the disk are pretty bland, not surprising given the vintage of the content.
