Sorrell And Son
Love And Honour Demand The Greatest Sacrifice.
Spanning two decades of tragedy and joy, this faithful adaptation of Warwick Deeping's best-selling novel tells the story of Stephen Sorrell (Richard Pasco), a decorated British army officer, who returns home after the First World War to face unemployment, poverty and his wife's desertion. Determined to educate his son as a gentleman, Sorrell is forced to accept exhausting and demeaning jobs in order to provide him with the best possibilities for a brighter future.

This is a good story about people of character. There are no bad guys or good guys; just people who are either a little flawed or a lttle noble. A very modern person might have trouble recognizing the sort of people portrayed, because they have all but disappeared. The horrors of the first world war have faded and the concept of the very honorable man are passé in a world where we are all expected to be gangsters.
The playing is superb and atmosphere of the sets, dress, furniture and the times, in general, are perfect. The camera work matches the over-all high quality of this production.
