Improvement over Season 1 - HelexraAscianti
Stargate SG-1, which was orignially only going to be a two-season show was renewed to three seasons, this meant that the writers were able to expand the focus beyond simply only the earth vs. Apophis storyline and enhance the depth of the mythology. The shows themselves improved as the actors began to know their characters better and the writers learned how to write them.
The special effects which are such a part of the show also got slightly better, though it took until the end of season 3 to really become very good (notice how all the CGI takes place with the camera motionless). They are still serviceable however and don't look dreadful like some of the other shows of the time did (Hercules, Buffy), though Stargate SG-1 had a much larger budget.
Stargate shifted from a more "classic sci-fi" to a more "action/adventure in a sci-fi setting" show. The original movie was more action/adventure as it was so the show was better picking up the intent of the film with the shift.Really Starts to Click - Ralston_McTodd
The 1st season is worth watching to get to this one. "A Matter of Time" is simply great TV writing. By this season the cast & crew are comfortable with the format and can begin to develop. The mythos starts to build, too, as there are constant references to previous episodes and a dynamic continuity begins to be established--the same dynamic continuity that operated brilliantly in Babylon 5 but was sadly lacking in the various Star Trek series. The producers begin to takes a few story-telling risks and it pays dividends.Love this series! - sinic
I finally started getting through this series (now 10 seasons strong) and I can see why it is so sucessful. It seems like every new episode gets better thna the last and this season has a great cliff hanger at the end.
I like the interaction between the 4 very different main characters. Anderson's constant sarcasm is a nice break from the usually serious tones of the show.
Overall, I enjoyed this season a lot and can't wait for Season 3 to arrive
