First of all, this is not science fiction. Yes, it uses special effects, but that doesn't make it science fiction.
Yes, this film was an entertaining spectacle, but it's vastly over-rated. Watching it, I'm struck but all the dumb plot points.
Here's one--midway through the movie, the black demoniacs are pursuing Frodo across the country side. Yet despite their supernatural abilities, they have to stop and get directions. "Shire?" they ask a hobbit (or whatever). So what does the hobbit do? He tells the scary looking guys where to go! It's dumb, and ultimately that can be blamed on the lousy source material. The Godfather of Fantasy Films - screengem
The wait for this epic to be made into a movie was largely due to JRR Tolkien's distaste for the idea. I believe he would have been stunned by what was finally rendered from the trilogy that defines fantasy literature. Now, not only was this the most important work of its kind, it is now also one of the best movies of its kind. The dialogue, while at times short and choppy still contains the wisdom contained in the book while the cinematography brings out his vision. Coupled with the best computer-generated graphics (still stunning, even in this day of Inception) and a soundtrack that fits with the ups and downs contained within.
Viggo Mortensen was truly spectacular in his role as Aragorn, and Orlando Bloom has never again equalled his performance as Legolas. Truly a trilogy worthy of the time invested - this series is a must see of the highest rating. The saga begins - AandW
It all starts here. We enter an exciting world of intrigue and fantasy. Great plot. Great acting. Perfect effects and costumes. There is nothing bad to say about this one. The ring of power has been found and it must be destroyed before it gets back into the hands of evil. But who will volunteer. The most unlikely of creatures... a hobbit.
