The Sopranos: Season 4
It's tough times in Jersey for Tony Soprano. The sluggish economy hasn't been good for the family business. His wife Carmela is angling for more financial security. Some longtime lieutenants aren't happy with Tony's recent decisions. A rival boss wants a bigger piece of the suburban pie. A Soprano is actually heading to trial for the first time in decades. At least one child seems to have lost interest in higher education. And the ducks aren’t coming back anytime soon.

Good season. I can't believe how mad Johnny Sack got about the joke, but I guess I can respect it on some level (like defending your wife's honor and stuff)...hahaEditing cuts - Nishoba
Sopranos is a great series. One of the only beefs I have with the series is that it's well established that Tony is attracted to a certain unstable strong personality in women. The show does very well in setting up those fairly flat characters, but instead of either leaving us with the information, or developing the "sideshow" character, the show moves to unnecessary nude scenes or sex shots. I'm not against nudity if it serves some kinda purpose, or even as background. But when it becomes the main focus and relays no character information it's annoying. If I wanted to watch sex scenes with no purpose I'd watch porn. I watch Sopranos for the character drama.
Sopranos is a great series though, and that's my only beef. It won't stop me from watching the rest of the series, but I think it could be better. As Good As It Gets - Cruel_Intentions
There's this wonderful paradox in the gangster genre that as the gangsters are committing incredible atrocities and crimes, they have a fidelity that is truly touching and magnificent. It creates a love-hate relationship between the characters and the audience. We admire what we revile.
Because of its constant attention to the gangster genre, The Sopranos is simply one of the best show on television. Consistently brilliant and unexpected plotlines, beautiful acting, and incredibly vivid writing are present during each episode. The most amazing aspect of the show is that every episode is like a film - I don't think there is any other show that makes such a conscience effort to utilize different motifs, camera angles, and cinematography to determine the characters' present state of mind.
It's no wonder the show manages to grab the attention of directors like Steve Buscemi. The show takes the standard, tired cliches of the gangster genre and infuses new meaning into them.
Of course, you don't have to take my word for it. I encourage any fan of the gangster genre or family dramas to pick up the box sets. You won't regret it.
