Absolutely love this show. My sister and I used to get together every Friday night to watch it. We would be two minutes in before she was hiding behind a pillow and asking if we could record it and watch it on Saturday... in the daylight. It's not gross - or at least not every episode - but does have a psychological element that will make you want to watch and dissect with your friends. Definitely not for children. As great as the first time I watched it - Elliott_Ang
This is an amazing series that's timeless. Although some episodes are a little odd, you're drawn into the plot each and every time. Although it's filmed during the 90s, it's set up in such a way that other than Dana's shoulder pads, you can't tell the time period. All of the adventures could just as easily be happening now. X Files is much more interesting than Desperate Housewives or even CSI. It's a breath of fresh air.Just good television - Chris_W_(ON)
Even if your not a Sci-fi/FBI drama fan, you have to admit that X-Files is one of few very well done television series.
Its production value was ahead of its time, only 8-10 years later do we find still only a few consistently well produced television dramas, and along with good storytelling filled with wit and the subtle humour, X-Files was a welcome addition to television land.
I honestly had not become an X-File fan until season 2, for whaterver reason, I was unable to watch season 1 episodes, or they didn't reel me in at the time. I am amazed at how well produced this television series was, even from the first pilot episode. Most TV shows have actors that don't mesh until at least 12 - 20 shows into the series, but Anderson and Duchovney work well together from epsisode one, and is one of the many reasons why this telvision series lasted.
There is defintely a lot of hokey science and FBI/Sci-Fi mumbo jumbo that plagues the dialogue, you have to dispand reality, which is part of what this show is about, but overall, Chris Carter is able to inspire continued interest in the series. Having seen season 1 fully after seeing the other seasons, you can already see the conspiracy quickly building-up.
Every season of X-File have a few rare amazing episodes, season 1 however doesn't have any that quite single themselves out yet, but most are well done. Compare season 1 of Star Trek: TNG to its season 7, a lot of work was needed to mold that show into a good quailty series, X-Files started good right from the beginning and only got better.
