In 1993, an elite group of American Rangers and Delta Force soldiers are sent to Somalia on a critical mission to capture a violent warlord whose corrupt regime has lead to starvation of hundreds of thousands of Somalis. When the mission goes quickly and terribly wrong, the men find themselves outnumbered and literally fighting for their lives.

Excellent film! - Chris13
I don't tend to want to see war movies just because of the subject. I will however see any movie that Ridley Scott is involved in. This movie is amazing on so many levels. As many people (and war veterans) say, this film is possibly the most accurate movie ever made that give you the immerse feeling of what it was like to be in this situation. The staging, sets, filming and acting are all top notch. I kept finding that my eyes would dry out because I was fearful of blinking too much in case I missed some action!Excellent bonus material.... - Cricri7
I had watched Black hawk down a couple of weeks ago and felt that the entire story had not been told in the movie. I saws that there were documentaries in the deluxe edition and zipped Disc 3. There are 2 excellent documentaries on it. The one made by the History Channel is incredible. It tells the whole story with the help of survivors. You can put the real faces on the actors that played them so well. African countries, like Somalia, have been fighting with other countries and within themselves also.
Africa is full of stories like those sadly.First Class Film, First Class Extras - sbmess
Based upon real events recounted in Mark Bowden's series of articles in the Philadelphia Inquirer, and his resulting book entitled Black Hawk Down: A Story of Modern War, the film tells the story of a miscalculated armed forces operation in Mogadishu, Somalia. The original newspaper series told the soldiers' stories in haunting detail, and acted as a cautionary account of the human price of sending troops into foreign territories. Scott fills Black Hawk Down with immediate visual perspectives, using stunning camera angles and computer effects to provide creative shots that range from swirling helicopter blades that almost seem able to reach beyond the front of the screen, to blink-inducing incoming missiles.
The true success of the film is brought home even clearer with the exceptional release of the 3-Disc Deluxe Edition. The presence of the real men who served in Mogadishu is all over the set, ranging from interview excerpts and news footage to an outstanding audio commentary. These sources reinforce how the film stayed true to the actual events and gave due respect to all of the participants, despite the use of composite characters and some creative license taken. To hear men like MSgt. Matt Eversmann, Col. Tom Matthews, Col. Danny McKnight, and Col. Lee Van Arsdale describe how their story now won't be forgotten says a lot about the film's accomplishments.
As the initial DVD was thin on special features, it seemed pretty clear that an expanded edition was going to follow, but the Deluxe Edition exceeded my expectations with its stellar collection of extras. You name it, this set's got it: three multiple-participant commentaries, a comprehensive "making-of" featurette, deleted scenes, two in-depth documentaries on the actual events, excerpts from Q&A sessions, storyboards, stills, trailers, and more. The transfer matches the excellent audiovisual quality of the earlier release, too, making the Deluxe Edition an all-around first class effort.
