"Not that bad" becomes "waste of time" - themiddleseat
There is an old adage for any movie taken from a book, that being "the book was better". And though that goes for anything written by Frank Herbert, I have to say that this movie interpretation of the book is not that bad. The characters are all there and though played a little stiff, they were not that bad. As for the set, most of the grandure was there, but the austere magnificence is missing. The costuming, again was okay but it could have been closer to the book. The only exception to any of this is the character of Princess Wensicia Corrino played by Susan Sarandon. Ms. Sarandon played her character beautifully and her costuming, as well as her set surrounding, were perfect, right over the top. So, I wait for the second disc, enjoying the “okayness” of this half of the movie.
What can I say about the second half of this movie? I believe that anti-climatic would be the best word for this.
Let’s start with Alia, she is going mad, we know that Baron Harkonnen has his grips on her. But her madness does not become more pronounced or varied except in that last 2 minutes of the movie and even in that short amount of time, we watch Alia’s madness consume her for about 30 seconds.
Princess Wensicia Corrino offer sanctuary to Lady Jessica Atreides with plots within plots in mind. Big deal, as we know that Princess Wensicia is looking to put either herself or her son, Prince Farad’n Corrino, on the Atreides’ throne. Nothing to exciting there.
Leto and Ghanima survive the assassination plot. Not too surprising, as the movie goes on for another 2 hours. The only little surprise is that Leto lets Ghanima believe that he has been killed and goes onto find “The Golden Path”.
Leto is captured, force fed Spice and them come into his own power. He sees into the future and is no longer being affected by Spice. Leto then allows himself to be transformed by “sandtrout”, the larval form of the Arrakis sandworm. It covers his skin and beside givStellar sequel! Imaginative, emotional, beautifully filmed! - Winkle
It's too bad Children of Dune followed on the heels of a very poorly done "Frank Herbert's Dune", which didn't leave much room for hope of a quality sequel. Still, for all the disappointment of the first installment, Children of Dune recovers remarkably well. Although the character of Alia has a tendency to go over the top at times (she seems to revel in melodramatic, unnatural acting), the rest of the cast is stellar. You will fall in love with Leto II, who carries the weight of the universe in his eyes. The lush landscapes, the beautiful costumes, and an overall splendid cast make this movie a pleasure to watch.Continuation - Caiden
A continuation of the original Dune Miniseries. Wonderfully vivid. However frustrating in that some of the characters we like turn out to be not so good and watching new actors replace old actors was difficult. Not as much action but more intrigue. A definite watch if you have seen the first one. Watch the first one first.
