Firefly: The Complete Series
"A very funny, very hip, very terrific sci-fi show." -The New York Post
Five hundred years in the future there's a whole new frontier, and the crew of the Firefly-class spaceship Serenity is eager to stake a claim on the action. They'll take any job, legal or illegal, to keep fuel in the tanks and food on the table. But things get a bit more complicated after they take on a passenger wanted by the new totalitarian Alliance regime. Now they find themselves on the run, desperate to steer clear of Alliance ships and the flesh-eating Reavers who live on the fringes of space.
Includes all 14 episodes, 3 of which were never broadcast.

A very underrated show!! - farquh
I just watched this series recently, so I did not see it on its original network run. I am happy about that, since I bet this series works best on DVD when you can watch multiple episodes in a row as opposed to waiting week-by-week for a new episode like you would have to if watching on TV.
If you are a fan of sci-fi at all, this show is sure to entertain you.
It does have a slightly lower production value, meaning the special effects and sets were mot likely done on a budget, but that is not the point of Firefly.
What Firefly does just about as good as ANY large ensemble cast is always deliver on the character interaction.
The dialogue is witty, and each character in the cast is given equal amount of screen time and episode focus in a balanced manner. I can see why Firefly creator Joss Whedon has been given the job of directing the upcoming Avengers movie. When they are putting together a big budget movie with lots of personalities that need to gel together correctly, Joss seems to be the man Hollywood turns to!
Now, I was skeptical after watching the first episode. I did find that it dragged a bit, but after episode 2, I saw the brilliance of it. Just be prepared to give this series a bit of time to grow on you - what is happening is character traits that are being introduced in early episodes will surprising pay off as during future episodes!
I am very surprised that a show of this quality was cancelled after only 1 season. Considering some other TV series that are nowhere near as complex as Firefly always seem to get renewed year after year.
I understand that after it was cancelled the characters returned for a feature film. I am certainly going to find it right away!A Must See! - JennyB
I had not heard of Firefly until I saw the movie Serenity - the continuation of this tv series sadly cancelled in its prime.
Only Joss Whedon could create a world where space whores are venerated and laymen swear in chinese.
Highly original and at times laugh out loud funny, this series is a must see, especially in these days of copy cat tv series. Firefly's actors are perfectly cast and a joy to discover. It seems that despite the size of the ensemble cast, each character gets his or her great story line and has a chance to shine.
The last episode is, dare I say it, a masterpiece, and only made me long for more.Another Huge Loss for TV Viewers - E
As every other member review attests to on this list, this was one fabulous series which ended far too soon. It did not hook me in the first episode, but WOW! Did it ever get better with each subsequent episode. I was very impressed - part Star Wars, part Gunsmoke, part Battlestar Gallactica, part Mad Max. There is a lot of good humour, some great acting, and I love the way that it consistently played on and interrupted commonly used tv/movie cliffhanger moments. Very smart, very funny, and a real shame it had no opportunity to find an audience. Looking forward to watching Serenity the Movie. Highly recommended!
