Gilmore Girls: Season 1
Welcome to quaint Stars Hollow, Connecticut. People often mistake Independence Inn's manager, headstrong single mom Lorelai Gilmore, and her equally willful teenage daughter, Rory, for sisters. Lorelai and Rory cope with the same emotional ups and downs, including Lorelai's overbearing, old-money parents and the joys and frustrations of the male gender. This heartfelt, humorous drama appeals to young and old alike with its blend of traditional family issues and hip, contemporary attitude.

The title of Gilmore Girls is misleading but the town is a heavy component to this quirky series. Each character is given enough time, to shine from Michel the surly innkeeper, Sooki the chef who should have died years ago and then there are the neighbourhood gossips: Mrs. Patty and Yvette. The real characters are Kirk the town fool, Emily Gilmore the icy wasp who for some reason has such likability and pesky Taylor Dosey ups his absurdity in each episode. The dialogue is fast, sharp but not as annoying as other shows where they lambast one with their verbose dialogue, which is beside the point when a longwinded rant ends in no laughs or snideness. The jokes are at time understated but it is also a kind enough show where they don't spell it out. If you happen to miss a joke or reference, don't remise because rewatching this series means it won't get stale. They weren't kidding about the dialogue! - eurguy
Whoa! One of the most entertaining series I have enjoyed. Love listening to the fast paced dialogue and bantering amongst the characters. Fun, funny and extremely witty show with alot of heart. Supremely written. Found myself completely sucked into the story lines. This is definitely not just a "chick-show", you guys will like it too.goes to show you don't ever know - dsjam
There is no reason, judging from the look of this show, to imagine that it is anything more than more of the predigested pap that is "family oriented" fare on the tube these days. It is however a marvelously charming, wonderfully written and acted series that is addictive in the best sense. Rarely have I ever been so attached to characters as I have been to Lorelai and Rory, and the story arcs - some of them spanning several seasons - develop and mutate unpredictably. The dialoque is terrific, laden with pop culture references, many of them quite obscure. Highly, highly recommended.
