Everybody Loves Raymond: Season 1
Standup comedian Ray Romano stars as Ray Barone, a successful sportswriter who deals with his brother and parents, who happen to live across the street. Patricia Heaton ("The Goodbye Girl"), Peter Boyle ("While You Were Sleeping"), Doris Roberts ("Remington Steele"), and Brad Garrett ("Gleason") round out the stellar cast.

Everybody Loves Raymond has a cast that is believable as a family in all of the best and worst that it can be. It is more dramatic and humorous than most peoples' everyday lives, but most will probably relate to at least some small kernal of truth that underlies much of the humor.
The characters are likable and interesting. A good weeknight rental!Fantastic entertainment! - Pr0metheus
I think this TV show is great, simply because we all have similar situations that we can relate to. And the older we get (middle-aged), the more likely these situation occurs. For example, parents who come over all the time, or your mom who doesn't think your wife is "good" enough. ELR takes those cases and put it in a comedic light. The typical spousal tension is there as well, and the best episode for that is "the Can Opener," shown in a later season. There are other episodes where Debra (Ray's wife) and Ray get into each other nerve, but there are too many to count.
For this first season, my favorite episodes are "Standard Deviation" and "Who's Handsome." The first pilot episode is definitely different, and you can tell that the actors and actresses are still a little rusty and starting to get used to working among each other. If you follow the first episode onward, you'll realized that certain things carried over to the next year and the next. The "fruit-of-the-month" first brought up in the 1st episode has carried on to the 9th season.EveryBody Loves Raymond - Season 1 - Dakos
I have to admit that this is one of the funnier sitcoms that have come out in quite a while. The parents are hilarious and so is the brother, Robert. I think the first season is one of the better seasons because the writing is fresh. There is also a good bonus feature on Disc 5 including a Letterman comedy skit where Ray Romano talks about coming to Montreal. I am defintely going to rent the other seasons
