The Dick Van Dyke Show: Season 3
Season Three 1963-1964
Pratfall-prone Rob Petrie (Dick Van Dyke) and his plucky wife Laura (Mary Tyler Moore), along with the wisecracking Sally (Rose Marie) and Buddy (Morey Amsterdam), captured America's hearts in this TV favorite that irresistibly combined wit and slapstick. The third season, which earned the series' highest ratings, opened with the landmark "That's My Boy??" about Rob's fear that he's brought the wrong baby home from the hospital, getting the longest studio audience laughs in the show's history. Also among the season's 31 original full-length episode included in this box set are the hilarious "October Eve" with Laura mortified when a nude portrait of her surfaces in a New York gallery and "Big Max Calvada" in which a gangster muscles Rob, Buddy and Sally into writing a comedy routine for his nephew.
Disc 1:
This disc contains the following episodes: "That's My Boy??", "The Masterpiece", "Laura's Little Lie", "Very Old Shoes, Very Old Rice", "Uncle George", "Too Many Stars" and "Who and Where was Antonio Stradivarius?". Extras include cast interviews and an audio commentary for "That's My Boy??".

Dick Van Dyke must be one of the most genious comedic performers ever! The way he uses his body is as funny as how he delivers his lines. This s a smartly written and funny sitcom. Mary Tyler Moore is great as his young and endearing wife. Definitely worth checking out for funny blast from the past.Fun Show that Dates Well - Mookie
While it is true a show like this without the edge or frenetic cuts of today's sitcoms would not make it on the air, at the heart of this show is good comedy and the template a lot of other sitcoms were based on. while it is a story of a man who works as the head writer on a comedy show, the truth is that the setting could have been anywhere. It is the comedy of a man and his coworkers and his wife.
I understand it may be a bit too bland for some but I enjoy the episodes. And while some stand up better than others the ratio of hits to misses is pretty good.
