Easy Riders, Raging Bulls
This 2 DVD set is Kenneth Bowser's BBC-produced documentary of Peter Biskind's controversial, best-selling book. It chronicles the evolution of a new breed of filmmaker who, in the late '60s and '70s, exploded old Hollywood, in the process redefining the very nature of movies. The results were edgy, impressionistic pictures-The Godfather, Easy Rider, Mean Streets, Midnight Cowboy, Rosemary's Baby, Taxi Driver-by maverick, now-legendary directors: Scorsese, Coppola, Lucas, Altman, Polanski, Peckinpah.
In brining the celebrated book to the screen, director Bowser employed some adventurous filmmaking of his own. Narrated by William H. Macy, Easy Riders, Raging Bulls features vintage clips of the directors who defined the movement; original interviews with such directors as Arthur Penn and John Milius, actors such as Peter Fonda and Richard Dryfus and more.

Easy rider, raging bulls tells the story of the golden era of American movies in the 1970's. This period was marked by many great filmakers, Scorsese-Coppola just to name a few, and their movies.
In this documentary, there are many interviews with actors, directors, producers who tell the story behind the scenes of many great movies. Peter Fonda talks about Easy rider for example. If you love movies and how they are made, you will love this documentary.Decent intro - swebb19
Gives you an pretty decent introduction to american film making in the seventies, giving a sampling on every director you would expect (scoresese, spielberg, lucas), and a few lesser known ones, but the film doesn't go in depth into any of them. If you're already familiar with movies from the time, I doubt this documentary will have much to offer you.The story behind the stories we all enjoy - bartonfink
This documentary captures the essence of Peter Biskind's fantastic book (which is a must-read for any fan of cinema) about film making in the 70's. The rise and fall of the auteur directors in Hollywood. Politics, sex, drugs, scandals, are all chronicled but not exploited as the broader context is presented showing how the B movie became the blockbuster, and Hollywood will never be the same again.
