Judith Krantz's I'll Take Manhattan
I'll Take Manhattan takes you into the high-stakes world of magazine publishing and weaves a dazzling tale of love and betrayal. Meet Krantz's most joyous character-the sensational Maxi Amberville (Valerie Bertinelli), an uninhibited woman who unexpectedly discovers that she must abandon her life of pleasure to save her family.
The gorgeous, flamboyant Maxi, at twenty-nine has already discarded three husbands on two continents. Her life is a stream of endless gratification in her lavish Trump Tower apartment-until her widowed mother marries the brother of her dead father, who died under suspicious circumstances. Her uncle plots to sell her father's magazine empire, to destroy his memory. This turns Maxi's lust for living into a passionate quest for revenge.
Maxi takes over the small weekly Buttons and Bows...gathering her hot-blooded ex-husband, sassy daughter and a small group of devoted members of her father's team. Risking it all, Maxi creates B&B, the most reader-friendly women's magazine in the country that, despite her uncle, becomes a huge success. Here is a dramatic story of family, ambition, revenge, and an unforgettable woman who changes from a playgirl, to a dynamic and caring heroine.

I remember reading the book in the 80's then being very excited about mini-series (I'm a Valerie Bertinelli's fan). Now having seen it again. Oh crap! The overacting and bad acting is overwhelming. The 80's fashion is bad. Valerie's accent, what is that? I will receive part II and III, I will watch them but I don't think I'll like anymore than Part I.
Really some things should be left in the past!!!I'll Take Manhattan Too! - Shynn
Over the top across the board. Sets, hair, acting. Wonderful! I remember this mini-series when it first aired and of course at the time it was all very fashionable. Valerie Bertinelli shined in this role. She brought the right mix to the character and her perennial child like, precocious take on the character was perfect. There was some weak points and weak casting but on the whole completely mind numbingly entertaining.
