Cracker: Series 1
Robbie Coltrane stars as Fitz, a brilliant criminal psychologist in Cracker. Fitz can look at a suspected criminal and find the cracks in their almost flawless exterior. And once he's found a crack, he can break them wide open.
But Fitz himself is not without flaws. He's an addicted gambler-though loathe to admit it; a sharp-tongued, chain-smoker and heavy drinker; a married man who loves his wife and children, but can't give up his other partners, drink and dice.
But Fitz is also extremely intelligent, surprisingly funny and a little bit dangerous. A highly charismatic character who can draw people from all walks of life to him like a magnet. And in the gritty industrial town of Manchester, he's the best the local police have got. A wise-cracking, crook-cracking master of his art.
For Fitz, murder is just the beginning.

My first thought when we started watching this was: Oh, there's Hagrid from Harry Potter. A few minutes into it, though, I'd forgotten all about that. Coltrane's acting is strong and believable. He's a troubled, chain-smoking gambler whose performance carries the show. Maybe he's a bit bombastic at times, but he pulls it off. Things slow down a bit with the suspect, who's passive and not too interesting. The show's a bit dated, but really good fun.British crime drama at its best - vparnell
"Cracker" is gripping, gritty and utterly absorbing. It's worth watching for Robbie Coltrane's excellent performance alone; once you do, you'll be sucked in. The writing, acting and direction are very good, with none of the cheesiness or melodrama that can occasionally seep into British cop shows. Check this series out - you won't be disappointed.Cracker: Series 1 - Mark_C
Brilliant: Coltrane's Fitz is the perfect mixture of bullish male arrogance, razor wit and all too human weakness; one of the most memorable characters in television. Put Cracker up against any American crime drama and the latter's failures become painfully clear. No one does character-driven mystery like the British. So why are we all sitting around wasting time on CSI?
