Return To Lonesome Dove
The Epic As Big As The West Continues.
Return to the story that captured both the spirit of the Old West and the hearts of America. Return to the breathtaking locations, dramatic confrontations, stirring romance and thrilling action. Return to Lonesome Dove.
Jon Voight, Barbara Hershey, Rick Schroder, Louis Gossett, Jr., William Petersen and Oliver Reed star in the sweeping story of three ex-Texas Rangers, based on characters created by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Larry McMurtry. After returning the body of Gus McCrae to Lonesome Dove, Woodrow Call takes on the challenge of driving a herd of wild mustangs 2500 miles north to the Hat Creek Ranch in Montana. But tragedy, triumph, despair and deceit will greet him before he ever gets there.
From Indian battles and deadly gunfights, to broken hearts and broken dreams, it's another incredible adventure you'll be able to treasure time and again. Return to Lonesome Dove continues a classic tradition: to perfectly capture and preserve the pioneer spirit of the American West for generations to come.

We're Lonesome Dove enthusiasts - to say the least - and return to watch the original about twice a year. It continues to hold up time and time again. Return To Lonesome Dove was a good enough follow up - but one viewing is enough. Let's face it, anyone trying to follow up Lonesome Dove is always going to be walking in the shadow of 2 of the best characters ever created for television - Tommy Lee Jones as Woodrow Call and - of course - Robert Duvall as Augustus McRae.A Passionate Re-Telling Of Lonesome Dove - bwod
Usually, sequels don't fair as well as their original version. In this case, an exception can be made to the rule. "Return To Lonesome Dove" beautifully picks up where "Lonesome Dove" left off.
With a few cast changes, which can be overlooked, the producers have recaptured the myth and mystique of Texas Ranger Woodward F.Call. Veteran actor John Voight is surprisingly effective in the role of Call, now retired from official duty, and looking for new adventures.
Rick Shroeder returns as Newt Dobbs, the young protege of Cap'n Call. He is more mature and stronger in this series, which sets up the t.v. series that would follow (Lonesome Dove: The Series. In it, Scott Bairstows would take over the role of Newt, making the character his own.)
Barbara Hershey and William Peterson (Gil Grissom on CSI), fill out a fine cast.
The cinematography, wich won an award, is breath-taking. In short, if you are a fan of westerns, and "Lonesome Dove" in particular, this series will grab you by the long-horns. Thumbs up!
