Monk: Season 1
Obsessive. Compulsive. Detective.
He's ingenious, he's phobic, he's obsessive-compulsive. Emmy and Golden Globe Award winner "Tony Shalhoub is a riot" (TV Guide) in Monk, the show that critics are praising as "Fresh, exciting and utterly original." (Chicago Tribune)
Monk's hilarious, offbeat antics have made him unfit for duty but he's back as police consultant to help out on their most baffling cases. The brilliant but neurotic Monk is now fighting crime as well as his abnormal fears of germs, cars, heights, crowds and virtually everything else known to man in "the best detective show to come along in decades." (New York Post)
"Nothing on TV generated more fun than this" (Los Angeles Times) and now you can enjoy the entire first season of Monk on DVD.

Enjoyable, original detective show - Lina
I just watched disc 1 of season 1 and enjoyed it very much. The third episode, "Mr. Monk Meets Dale the Whale" was a bit too Agatha Christie (How could someone commit a crime if there was no way he could have been there?), but the pilot episode was excellent! As others have said, Tony Schalhoub is terrific as the title character, and his relationship with his private nurse is interesting to watch, too. Note: There are no extras on DVD 1/1.Gotta Love Monk - TAMMYLOCKS
I love, love, love, love Monk! I just discovered this show a few months ago and I've been watching episode after episode and still can't get enough. The premiere is one of the best 1st episodes I've ever seen and it got me hooked! Watch this show - you won't regret it!Would be good if it wasn't so insulting - XTRUClerk
You gotta love it when Americans come up north to shoot their TV shows. Here you have a bunch of detectives parading around what is supposed to be San Francisco but is obviously Toronto. And though all of them are wearing their little American flag pins on their lapels to show how very patriotic they are, that doesn't stop them from filming in Canada to save a few US bucks. It would be much more convincing withought the blue and yellow Bell telephone trucks or Rory O'Shea from The Weather Network playing an extra. Once the secret is out, lines like "Don't worry, by tomorrow we'll be in Canada!" are much funnier than ever intended. This asside, I would also like to point out that OCD does not make good material for comedy. I saw Matchstick Men earlier this year and I thought the very same thing. It's a serious disorder that makes life a living hell for those that suffer it. It might be funny to watch Mr. Monk obsess over a flower arrangement or straighten some picture frames, but when you have OCD and you wash your hands tens times in a row using ten different bars of soap and scrubbing your hands until they bleed, it isn't so funny. Let's see them make a quirky character who has cancer, or HIV. No one does because those deseases are considred to be serious, but OCD is as well. All in all it would be easier to enjoy Monk if it wasn't so insulting. On occasion it is funny, with the relationship between Monk and his nurse quite interesting. It is rarely clever (I usually shout out the plot in the first three minutes), and relies too much, as many mysteries do, on the guilty party breaking down and confessing when the detective poses a riddle of so called proof. This show needs to work a lot harder to be considered really worth viewing. For that matter, the OCD is so not a laughing matter that the idea should have been scrapped from day one. I know you want to distinguish youself from other cop shows by being different, but how about trying good writing
