Jeremiah: Season 1
A stunning sci-fi epic that re-envisions the future of mankind, this top-rated, action packed original series is "intriguing" (Associated Press), "fascinating" (Ft. Lauderdale Sun-Sentinel) and "deep and intense" (Science Fiction Weekly)! Luke Perry ("Beverly Hills 90210," "Oz") stars as Jeremiah, one of the many young survivors of the "Big Death" that claimed the lives of every adult in the world 15 years ago. Now forging their way through a bleak wilderness fraught with danger and conspiracy, Jeremiah and his most trusted friend, Kurdy (Malcolm-Jamal Warner), are plunged into thrilling adventures that test every facet of their humanity... and ultimately the fate of the human race itself!

Couldn't get through the pilot. I love the idea of the story, it's the execution I couldn't get over - this is not good TV. I realize it's based on a graphic novel series, and if I was a fan I'm sure I'd be looking at this show in a different light. But if you're not it probably won't keep your interest. There are a lot of gaping wholes in the story. If you're not familiar with the story I'd skip this one.Likeable not Loveable - amaryllis
Jeremiah is based on a good solid premise: fifteen years earlier a virus, known as the Big Death, claimed the lives of all the adults. The children are left on their own to survive and create a new world. The potential of this show is enormous. Sadly the series doesn’t live up to the potential, and I understand why it was cancelled.
The main characters are played by Luke Perry and Malcolm Jamal Warner of Bev Hills 90210 and The Cosby Show. They’ve matured a lot, and both are talented actors. Jeremiah (Perry) is trying to find a place called Valhalla Sector, a place his father spoke of before dying. On his search he meets up with Kurdy( Warner), and they’re recruited to work for a secret group of survivors at Thunder Mountain.
Unfortunately the writers don’t allow us to see any depth in the characters, especially in Kurdy’s role. He spends most episodes just being a companion for Jeremiah, rather than a character in his own right. Some of the supporting characters are good, especially Kim Hawthorne as Theo, Byron Lawson as Lee and Alex Zahara as Ezekiel. Most of the others appear amateurish in comparison.
The episodes are uneven. Some suspenseful and satisfying as we learn more about Valhalla Sector, the events leading up to the Big Death, the few adults who survived and the varied efforts people have made to survive in this new world. But other episodes are merely like episodes of Touched by an Angel, with the characters helping deserving strangers, only in a bleaker more dismal world.
You might like this show, but you’re never going to love it. Especially without having the second season available on DVD. If nothing else it’s interesting to see how Perry and Warner have grown and matured into fine actors.A HIDDEN GEM - StEpHuLAr
I was never a fan of Luke Perry or Malcolm Jamal-Warner... until I stumbled upon this show ! One late evening, with nothing on TV, Jeremiah was playing on TMN and I was absorbed by what I was seeing. This show is DARK. What sets it completely apart is how it successfully conveys that hope is just around the corner, but unfortunately, the corner happens to be in a house of mirrors !
Luke Perry (Dylan McKay, Beverly Hills 90210) is Jeremiah, one of the survivors of what they call "The Big Death", a virus which wipped out everyone who went through puberty. We pick up the story 15 years later, where the oldest survivors of The Big Death are now young adults, and have tried as best as they could, to pick up the pieces.
The Sets are INCREDIBLE ! If you liked movies such as 28 Days Later for their "feel", get Jeremiah. The World they've created is very dark, very depressing and it will suck you in. I could go on and on about this show, but it's best to discover it on your own. I certainly don't want to give anything away.
Like another reviewer mentioned, Jeremiah only ran 2 Seasons, and was then cancelled. Season 1 does end on a cliffhanger, and Season 2 isn't available on DVD (and there are no plans to release it to DVD in the near future, according to MGM). HOWEVER, if you find yourself in need of seeing Season 2, e-mail me at steph_is_jericho@hotmail.com and I'll see if I can accomodate you. ;)
