Harsh Realm: The Complete Series
The Ultimate Mind Game
A month before leaving the army, Lieutenant Tom Hobbes is rousted from bed in the middle of the night and taken to a secret location for one last mission: test a simulated virtual reality game used to teach situation war strategy. After being briefed on the top-secret project, code-named Harsh Realm, Hobbes is given his objective: eliminate Major Omar Santiago, who has taken the game hostage. But upon entering Harsh Realm, Hobbes discovers he is trapped there - and the deadly game will never end unless he completes his mission.

I was sucked into Harsh Realm when it first aired and was very disappointed when it was cancelled. I'm glad I found Zip, Zip found it and I can watch a few more episodes - I wish they'd at least finished a full season, but a little more is better than none.
DB Sweeney and Samantha Mathis are great. Bairistow was never a great actor, but does OK as a GI dumped into a "computer game" and told to go for the high score. The twists that this game take and the goings on in the real world while said game is being played are intriguing. It does get confusing, but I hope in the un-aired episodes I'll gain some insight. If not, it's still good to be back in Santiago City.

The start of the series was quite good with fresh ideas and an interesting storyline. It didn't take long, however, for things to get stupid. The "rules" of the plot seem to change and things begin to go off in directions that disrupt rather than add to the show.
Maybe they could have pulled it all together had the series lived longer but I lost interest, myself, about 4 episodes in. Since I had rented the whole series I figured I'd push through and watch it all. Seriously, though, had I been one of the viewers when this was on the tube I would have stopped watching, too.An Aggravating Cancellation - ArcAngelMD
The loss of Harsh Realm was frustrating. This was a fantastic series that pushed the envelope of sci-fi TV in a Matrix-esque manner that predated that film. A year later and this may have been a hit. Hard to say though as Fox relegated it to Friday nights where Harsh Realm's key demographic is usually not at home.
Harsh Realm is certainly worth your time (though don't expect any closure). I have the DVD's myself and have viewed the series many times. There is some fantastic stories here and generally just good sci-fi/action.
