Arrested Development: Season 1
Arrested Development follows the adventures of the dysfunctional Bluth family after patriarch George Sr. (Jeffrey Tambor, in an Emmy-nominated performance) is hauled off to jail. Responsible son Michael (Jason Bateman) takes over, but even he's no match for his crazy siblings and sharp-tongued mom. Jessica Walter, Portia di Rossi, Will Arnett, Tony Hale, David Cross, Michael Cera and Alia Shawkat co-star in Fox's critically praised sitcom.

Arrested Development is self aware without being heavy-handed, clever without being unapproachable, and endlessly re-watchable without being repetitive.
The comedy in this show comes in layers - first the characters, then the situations, then the running gags and recurring jokes/themes, then back to the characters again. It's brilliantly written and acted, and remains the best comedy series of this millenium.Fox was crazy to cancel this show - jordan
Of course, they cancelled Family Guy too.
I came across this show by accident a few months ago. Bored, waiting at a friend's house, I put in the first disc hoping to pass some time. By the time my friend returned home I was halfway through the 8th episode.
This has to be some of the smartest and wittiest writing on television. The characters are despicably fabulous - you love to hate them. And each episode continually seems to top the last.
I don't think I've ever laughed out loud so much, and so hard, as I have with this show. The most rewatchable TV series I have ever seen - AgentSS
I only got into this show during Season 2, and I loved the episodes so much, that I purchased Season 1 as a "blind" buy. What I ended up with that night was a wonderful introduction to one of the greatest sitcoms ever.
The writing is clever and tight, with jokes that are fresh, unexpected, and often awkward. Believe me when I say that you may miss up to half of the jokes in an episode because they are often THAT subtle or quick (no "laugh now" pauses here); but upon discovery during that second or third viewing, they are like a surprise. This is how the show gets you laughing even after multiple replays. If you are a dedicated viewer, you are rewarded with recurring jokes. It's quite surprising how much work the writers of the show put into the buildup of some of their jokes.
The acting and casting are great; just watch how the actors handle "awkward" situations, of which there are many.
Perhaps the first thing you will notice upon watching the series is that it is filmed in a documentary style. Cameras are shaky and they swing around corners, get shut out by courtroom doors, and fall to the ground during car accidents (that's in season 2). You will also notice the editing. Flashbacks (of video and stills) and quick narratives are often spliced into scenes and narrated by Ron Howard. Oh yeah, the whole series IS narrated by Ron Howard.
This series is truly one of the few shows I would recommend someone to purchase because of its rewatchability. This is a great buy. Just trust me!
