Step Into Liquid
No Special Effects. No Stuntmen. No Stereotypes. No Other Feeling Comes Close.
From the makers of Endless Summer, Step Into Liquid takes us from the terrifying monstrous waves of Oahu's North Shore to the Texas waters of the Gulf Of Mexico (where waves are created by massive oil supertankers) to the shores of Ireland and Rapa Nui. Told through the voices of legends, pros and everyday surfers alike, it is not just a film for surfers, but for anyone with an appreciation for sport and an inkling of what it means to be "stoked."

I zipped a documentary on T-rex's a while back and it was footage of scientists talking about dinosaurs. I went in thinking there would be no people in the film since probably none existed when the mighty reptilian apex predator lived.
Later I zipped a documentary on sharks and it was scientists suiting up, preparing oxygen tanks, talking about how important sharks were.
I zipped documentaries on the coral reef, sea horses, the ocean and the rain forest, and most of them had a lot of footage of experts talking, when I wanted to see the subject matter itself.
This documentary has a nice mix of beautiful ocean waves and pro surfers discussing their trade. The ocean parts were magnificent, a roaring wall of water, powerful beyound belief, sliding and rolling with a small human surfer in the center.Great look at surfing - Shawn_in_Montreal
Really covers the basis to give an overview of surfing and surfers.
Riding Giants, which charts the history of big wave surfing through three key pioneers, is a much better film, though.
I'd recommend Riding Giants over this, if you were only going to watch one surf documentary.
Or better yet -- if you live near waves, grab a board go surf!Step into a beautiful world - beans
I never truly appeciated the beauty and art of surfing until Dana Brown and the Maverick crew showed how awesome it can be. This film presents the surfing world as a place of fun and harmony, where people take things just seriously enough to be respected, but not so seriously that they become a clique. These are athletic artists, who, while they may not all have a way with words, certainly have a way on the water. Dana Brown certainly has a way with words and pictures, weaving story after story together to present a lifestyle filled with smiles.
The images are breathtaking, one after another, and even I, who have a fear of water and the things with big teeth that live there, can feel the lure of the board. Unlike other sports, where the next guy down the run can basically follow your tracks or run in your footsteps, surfing involves acts that can never truly be duplicated. Each wave that rolls overhead or crashes to the shore is unique, and while the each surfer may do something similar, they will never experience the same wave. Nature keeps remaking the surface, so everyone has an individual experience.
The soundtrack is outstanding - both the original music and the compilation are fun and catchy. This is a film you can have playing at a party, and people will enjoy just listening or watching a bit here and there.
This has become one of my favourite movies, and I love sharing it with people who have never seen it. Even the skeptics end up glued to the screen, and often want to borrow it to watch it again. Like surfing itself, this film is addictive.
