500 Nations
500 Nations is an eight-part documentary that explores the history of the indigenous peoples of North and Central America, from pre-Colombian times through the period of European contact and colonization, to the end of the 19th century and the subjugation of the Plains Indians of North America. 500 Nations utilizes historical texts, eyewitness accounts, pictorial sources and computer graphic reconstructions to explore the magnificent civilizations which flourished prior to contact with Western civilization, and to tell the dramatic and tragic story of the Native American nations' desperate attempts to retain their way of life against overwhelming odds.

500 Nations - dabern
I found the perspectives presented in the live interviews to be most helpful to my understanding. Much of the series is a replay of colonizing European and American perceptions of history but told as we, the mainstream, imagine aboriginal history would have been. I kept thinking this is the noble savage stereotype at play.Agree with - Dakos
Derin's assertion of Kevin Costner. He comes off in some of his appearances as opinionated and resentful. On the other hand, the historical accounts were informative as well as the views from some of the native americans who participated. It is difficult to absorb the hardships the native americans experienced as U.S. settlers moved west in the 19th century.Informative - Derin
This movie has loads of facts and is very informative about a topic that most of us do not know enough about. However, Kevin Costner is a terrible host and his squinty looks of disappointment and whiny tone had me fast forwarding all the inbetween portions. Never-the-less I highly recommend this series.
