Quirky (yeah, sorry) short-lived (no surprise) tv series, one of the most original ideas ever on tv. I had seen the first episode when it was broadcast and loved it. Now that I've seen episodes 2 - 4, I can only say, rent it. Fun performances, doesn't take itself too seriously and have lots of nice twists in the story. Just saw 5 - 8 and it just gets better (esp. with Rue McClanahan in one episode).Great show, ahead of it's time - AtomicGirl
Truly original comedy series that smartly juggles religion, fate, mental illness, dysfunctional families, and disenfranchised youth, with clever production, a fantastic protagonist, and a great cast that was just hitting its stride when Fox pulled the show. The commentaries and other special features reveal great plotlines that would have been great if the show had continued.
Anyone who's a fan of Angel and Firefly (and pre-movie X-Files episodes) might be interested to know that Tim Minear was an executive producer and writer on this show, and his wit and story-telling style really shine. But this is NOT a supernatural drama. It's definitely a modern comedy, and a very clever one, at that. The production details on this show are also great - minor roles are well-cast, and the special effects that are essential to the story don't look cheap or over-the-top.
If Wonderfalls had aired a couple of years later, I think it would have been a hit, but Fox had low expectations from the get-go, and never gave this show a fighting chance. Or it should have been on a different network. I'm glad they at least had the decency to release all the episodes on DVD.I think I love her... - Bryson_McCarthy
Every show on television has the female lead who is smart and funny, and has everything going for her, even in the worst of times. It's a cookie cutter world for shows right now, but once in a while comes a show that is completely different and has something to prove. This is that show!
Wonderfalls shows us characters who mirror our own day to day problems, issues and thoughts in probably the most original and funny way. If you can imagine a show that is a mix between Joan of Arcadia and Touched by an Angel, but written by the guys Kevin Smith, or the writers of Mr. Show, then you have an idea of what you are in store for.
Each episode is great, carrying on the main season storyline, but also has their own stories as well, making each on good apart from the season. You will easily get sucked into the main lovestory behind it all, but episides like 'Totem Mole' which delve away from the continuing saga are gems as well.
I can't say enough about this show. this is the one show that should have never been cancelled and I should be tuning into the third or forth season this year instead of re-watching the 13 episodes they made. FOX dropped the ball here cancelling it, but at least we can see the entire season on DVD...
