SCTV: Volume 2
SCTV IS ON THE AIR!
SCTV: Volume 2 picks up where the first volume left of, presenting nine more 90-minute shows from SCTV's memorable fourth season. Originally broadcast on NBC in 1981 and 1982, these episodes are considered by many to feature some of the funniest material in SCTV history. Eugene Levy in The Jazz Singer or John Candy as the village idiot in the Russian TV show Hey Giorgy! are just two examples of the level of excellence the series achieved throughout this season. CCCP 1, The Godfather, Zontar and Teacher's Pet are some of the inspired wraparounds from these memorable shows.
Commentaries, interviews, hidden treasure and other special features round out another stellar collection of programming from Guy Caballero's experiment in television. SCTV is on the air...and you will be on the floor.

Still one of the great skit ensembles. The fact they are from Canada makes it even more memorable. You do miss the late John Candy although his characters are very funny. All of the SCTV characters are great and they all contribute to the legendary station. It is nice to see they aged nicely like fine wine.Still scattershot - rnhaas
This season is better than the last in some ways, and worse in some ways. For some reason the laugh track is bugging me, I can't even remember if it was on during the first NBC season, but now I find it distracting. The material is even more ambitious and that's both a good and bad thing. Sometimes it works brilliantly and sometimes it doesn't work at all. Sometimes it's far more clever than funny. One admires their boldness but one doesn't necessarily laugh a whole lot. I still think stretching the show out over 90 minutes was a bad idea. This is particularly evident in episodes where they advertise multiple later scenes (instead of scenes coming up next episode, or scenes that never made it to air). It's still worth the time, despite the negatives.SCTV (Volume 2) An Excellent Installment - TheShamus
Some of the most memorable SCTV material was created when they were picked up by NBC.
This DVD features a collection of nine 90-minute shows from Season 4 (cycle 2). There were 27 shows in total created for season 4 (and NBC repeated these shows heavily during their original broadcast run).
Everything I said about SCTV from Volume One, still holds true for Volume Two. SCTV fans will be happy that all of the original content (minus a few unsecured music copyrights) are here. The material is funny ... and the humour is somewhat dated (in many cases). This material does best as nostalgia --- and the DNA for many other comedians and comedy shows.
The highlight of these discs is the extras. Shout! Factory has to be congradulated on the bringing together current interviews with cast members. There is an excellent show from STAR! TV called, "Norman Seeff Sessions" -- a piece "the moment SCTV was at its height".
If you are an SCTV fan, this is great material.
