I decided to try these discs mainly going by old memories of enjoying the series back in the mid-80s, but half expecting to be sorely disappointed as it often is true that 'you can't go home again' and those great old shows really were only good for the time- but I was pleasantly surprised in that they're actually pretty good still. Sure the stories are often kind of 'cutesy' and it's hardly deep or insightful, but they're enjoyable, light, 'prime-time' (for the mid-80s) entertainment. Obviously it's not the original, but it needs to be taken in context and enjoyed for what it is, not unfairly comparing it to an icon...Mostly Good - TheCritic123
Theres no denying that some of these episodes are weaker then others however the good outweighs the bad as many of the episodes on the first disk alone are great such as "Examination Day", "Wong's Lost and Found", "The Uncle Devil Show", "I of Newton", . Also there are some big actors in many of these aswell including Bruce Willis and Morgan Freeman so that makes it even more enjoyable. As Good As I Remember - edbrisson
This is one of those rare instances of revisiting a show I loved as a kid and enjoying it just as much as an adult.
The show can be pretty uneven, with episodes sometimes feeling either too slight or too silly. However, when it hits, it hits well.
Episodes such as "A Little Peace and Quiet", "Wordplay" and "Button, Button" hold up well. Others, such as "Ye Gods" will make you want to fast forward (feel free, the pay off is not worth it!).
The quality of the transfers leaves a little to be desired. The picture quality makes you think you might be watching a vhs copy. However, it's not poor enough to distract once you're into it.
If you have the chance or inclination, listen to the commentaries, particularly those by professional grump Harlan Ellison. Harlan entertains as he explains how just about everyone on the production was a screw up and how his conflicts with others on the show forced producers to hire bodyguards to protect some of the production staff from Harlan.
