MI-5: Season 2
The stakes are raised in the new season of the award-winning MI-5, as the threat to national security increases and the need to thwart the activities of terrorists operating within the UK becomes more urgent. Tom (Matthew Macfadyen) and the team find themselves at the heart of the action and must deal with the psychological fall-out of leading such dangerous double-lives.

This is an absolutely brilliant series. You are on the edge of your seat from the beginning to the end of each episode. They are also not afraid to kill off the main characters, which is a bit unusual for TV, and helps keep it fresh. Although this is definitely not an accurate picture of life as an MI-5 operative (I'm sure real MI-5 agents are giggling through it), it's not meant to be - it's just a great thriller.Vast Improvement to Season 1 - Mookie
The first season of MI-5 started off slow and it wasn't until the final episodes that it found a way to balance the excitement with the message and the characters to make a fast paced, gripping drama. This season picks up where season 1 ended (literally) and we get some well written thrillers that make for a very strong drama. I still have complaints about too much focus on their personal lives and the fact the main three characters aren't that interesting (likeable) but even they got better as the writing improved. Overall, a good series to rent if you like solid, well written dramas.
ADDED AFTER SEEING FINAL EPISODE: I have to comment that the last episode was a HUGE let down. I thought it was a horrible way to write out that character (because the actor wanted to leave the show)and made his character and the other characters look like idiots. And it really turned me off of the series. Not just 'across the pond' scum - Big_J.
Engaging characters, current plot lines, and acting that actually makes you glad to have spent an hour in front of your television, MI-5 (or Spooks as it is known in Britan) has it all. If only we could get domestic networks to put this kind of thought and quality on the screen...ah well. A close look at the interpersonal side of espionage agents and the way government agencies really co-operate. Of course, since it is from across the pond, the American intelligence community is not always painted in a positive light, and you are not guaranteed to have a syrupy ending, that's for sure, which again is refreshing when compared to our usual selections. One thing about this series that really keeps me hooked is the fact that no one is invincible. Just because an actor is in the credits doesn't mean they will live through the show either. More time is spent developing the characters and looking at the emotional impact of their jobs, as oppossed to the flashy special effects and getting everything tied up in a nice little package in 52 minutes. If your looking for more than a deus ex machina ending, this is a show that is really worth a look.
