Hellboy: Director's Cut
Born into the flames of hell and brought to Earth as an infant to perpetrate evil, Hellboy was rescued from sinister forces by the benevolent Dr. Broom, who raised him to be a hero. In Dr. Broom's secret Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense, Hellboy creates an unlikely family consisting of the telepathic Mer-Man Abe Sapien and Liz Sherman, the woman he loves who can control fire. Hidden from the very society that they protect, they stand as the key line of defense against an evil madman who seeks to reclaim Hellboy to the dark side and use his powers to destroy mankind.

I was a bit surprised by the bad reviews that this film got here on Zip. I thought it was overall enjoyable enough with a bit of everything; nice special effects, good action scenes, humor. It has a good enough storyline partly inspired by historical facts and presents a few interesting characters. I would agree with a few comments though; the monsters are not all interesting and some of the action scenes served more as filler than anything else. A lot of the mythology that the production team attempts to build around the main character is a bit ridiculous but I don't know enough about the comic books to say if it's only to be true to the original story. But besides that, the cast is quite impressive doing an appropriate acting job with a comic book style dialogue. The sets and locations are very good, the soundtrack is appropriate and the camera work is professional. The special effects are well made despite the fact that they may lack a bit at the conceptual level. Fun film.Bizarre...but fun! - moviegenius
This bizarre adaptaition of Mike Mignola's comic book captures the essence of the characters. The plot is difficult to understand, but nevertheless, the fight scenes and special effects make for an enjoyable movie night. I think the best part of the movie is when it turns out they left one guy in the subway. It's silly... but fun!! - Helen
Okay - don't watch this film if you are a horror/action junkie, or in fact if you in any way are looking for a serious film... but for a silly, funny, light-hearted evenings entertainment this is it! the entire premise is daft - that has to be the point (they can't have been expecting us to buy it!) but sometime is just what you want, and this is a giggle!
