The Grid
Global Mission. United Force
From London, Cairo and Washington, D.C. to Saudi Arabia, Switzerland and Nigeria, a team of American and British counter-terrorist agents attempts to track down a dangerous terrorist cell operating on a deadly global level.
The nightmare begins after terrorists mistakenly release poisonous sarin nerve gas, killing themselves and guests at a London hotel. British MI5 and MI6 agents believe a local terrorist cell is targeting members of their counter-terrorism unit and plotting attacks on the London and New York City subways. But when the investigation broadens to include American agents from the FBI, CIA and NSA, the subway threat begins to feel like a diversion. As the agents rush to determine the terrorists' real plans, they find that they too have become targets in a deadly race not only to prevent the next attack, but to also disrupt the far-reaching terrorist network.

I was expecting great things from this movie. The opening sequence is pretty slick, and I got all excited...'ooo! Oooo!'
Um, not really. It tries, but I think a lot of counter-terrorism shows just fall flat when compared to productions like 24 and MI5, and movies like The Bourne Identity. I'd recommend those movies over this one. Oh, well! The kind of TV servies we all should watch! - Andy_Nutts
The Grid is an excellent faced paced drama about the world of counter-terrorism (from Washington & London to Saudi Arabia & Egypt). It follows a group of typified agents from various agencies (in the US and UK), countering a growing number of seemingly disconnected terrorist acts commited by muslim extremists (Al-Queda). From the language, tools, & methods each character uses to the way in which the terrorists are presented and organize their acts are extremely accurate (Also keep in mind this film was finished before the London subway bombings). This show presents all angles of the current security/privacy debate (from the liberal lawyer protecting citizens rights to the muslim CIA analyst that views it increasingly important to work in the flawed system to better it). In short, this is great entertainment but should be treated as necessary viewing for anyone interested in current affairs.
(Also, for people who talk about this being a 24 rip off should note that this show is 100 times more accurate than 24 ever was.More like "The Grind" - Stanthebandit
I suppose there was a desire to emulate (read: copy) the success of "24" in this production, but they copied the wrong elements.
The plot was sufficiently complex, and compelling in broad strokes, but the dialogue and characters stopped the series in its tracks.
What I *did* like: The collaboration with the UK production was very well done. I could see a credible effort to present this movie as a true international production, which was unexpected. The plot for the first 3 hours (admittedly, that's all I've watched, and all I plan to), as I said, was pretty well laid out. There was a lot of scope and location changes, all of which had a solid reason for happening.
What I *didn't* like: The fact that Canary made a 9/11 reference every time he showed up on screen - You could have made a drinking game around it. Julianna Marguiles' never once convinced me that she was an ambitious, powerful person who got what she wanted. I just kept seeing Nurse Hathaway from E.R.
Bottom line: It's interesting enough to take a look, but if you're into the international spy thriller, I suggest you take a look at the DVD set for "MI-5" first...
