Fine Insights on Darwin's Dilemma - tigermom
The Disk Nr. 1 of the Evolution series alternates acted out scenes from the life of Charles Darwin - and the actors are doing a fine job; especially Darwin's spirited brother Erasmus - with comments by top of the line scientists and authors. The documentary not only contrives to be very entertaining, it does offer very clear insights on the evolution theory as proposed by Darwin and on the reasons why this way of looking at the planet and ourselves jarred - and still jars - with Christian theology. While explaining alternative ways of thought succintly and fairly, the makers do make clear that they favour the evolution, as they darn well should, and offer some beautiful facts for you to toss into the next discussion of the topic you get into - for example gainsaying the ancient claim that natural evolution of something as wonderfully functional as the human eye should be impossible. It is not, and this disk will show you how not.
A high quality documentary of movie length, it will get you thinking and will not bore anybody for a second, nor should it offend intelligent Christians. My husband, who is a professor of Biology, pronounced Evolution Disk 1 to be the best film on Darwin he had ever seen. He should know!
