for a series done in the 80s this is well done. The effects are very good in a time well before CGI and the story is quite good if not a bit predictable. I enjoyed this series when it was on and wanted to rewatch the movie it is still very good and I was not disappointed I know memory has a way of distorting things. I have fond memories of this show, though it followed a trend of the 80's that included shows like "Knight Rider" and "Blue Thunder." That trend involved focusing on some technology or machine rather than characters or situations. It's very clear this show is network TV's answer to the film "Blue Thunder" (which went on to become a TV show, too).
I think what made the show better was that, despite its being a helicopter show, its main character was an interesting. Like the lead playing him, Stringfellow was a haunted character which made for some interesting scenes (as I remember them).
Also, the helicopter was portrayed as a groaning animal which was a nice touch.Airwaste:season lame - Pete_Huge
Take a good idea like a super cool helicopter and kill it with dumb characters, dumb plot, and overused background shots.
First the cool chopper - airwolf goes fast has a cool bunch of weapons and scanners and is bullet proof.
Now for the crap that ruined it: The characters are lame and unlikeable. Hawke angry and unforgiving. Dom is a nice old guy who is more of a hinderance than a help. Archangel is a Charlie want to be from Charlie's Angels.
They show the same sequence of airwolf flying whether in Russia, the dessert of Lybia, or the US. They saved big dollars by shooting 5 flying scenes and recycling them over and over and over.
Much like the A-Team or Knight Rider. Lame to the power of 15.
