No wonder it was canceled after one season.... - Ninuska
I had been looking forward to getting this series for a while and when it finally came in the mail I eagerly put it into my DVD player. Boy was I disappointed. I can't believe people have been writing rave reviews about this but then I guess I should've known better with Denis Leary in the lead role. I couldn't even make it through the pilot episode without rolling my eyes and yawning. No charisma, no humor, no zing. I guess I should always take it as a warning when a series is canceled after one seasonGreat Series, No laughtrack - LouPaloma
The spiritual precursor to the wildly entertaining Rescue me, this short-lived series sees Denis Leary as a thoroughly corrupted New york Policeman working with others who, if not as corrupt as him, are at least flagrantly inept enough not to notice. Chief among the things that make this show work is the lack of a laugh track, which means that the jokes have to work based on the actor's abilities to carry them and allows them to adopt a more natural timing, without having to allow 5 second pauses after each line. Denis Leary is in top form, but that doesn't stop the supporting cast from rising to the occasion. The show does take a very glib approach to the excesses of its characters with no real eye towards the repercussions of many of their blatantly criminal acts, but that's not what this show was meant to be anyway. It's too bad the show didn't have the numbers to warrant a second season, but thankfully the series ends on an open note so you can watch the first season and not be left feeling as if you've been ripped off when you reach the last episode and realize that there will be no moreThe Job: The Complete Series - jenga
This is one of the best series (or start of a series) that I've seen in a long time! Denis Leary is magnificent in his role as Mike!
I am so disappointed they cancelled this after just one season...Diane Farr fills the role of Jan perfectly, and just the whole story line is dead on! If you want lots of laughs, rent this series!
