Disappointing Adaptation - CharleyJames
Margaret Rutherford, Joan Hickman, Geraldine McEwan. Who? Geraldine McEwan.
How disappointing that BBC decided Agatha Christie needed "updating." Geraldine McEwan is a fine actress but she is battling scripts that do neither her talent nor Agatha justice. There are anachronisms left and right and Miss Marple simply would not call out "Yoo hoo!"
I've un-Zipped the rest of the series.Unfaithful, yet very entertaining - Gaucho
This new batch of Marples from the BBC has changed much of Christie's original works, modernized many of the characters, added new concepts that wouldn't have flown back then, and...
is about the most enjoyable adaptations of Marple I've ever seen.
The acting is amazing (borrowing from film, the stage, and Doctor Who), the sets are above the average BBC budget (they aren't painted flats on a sound stage), and the plots (even foreign to Christie) work.
Ignore the books for an hour and enjoy these new versions!Best Marple Yet - Scott4
Yes, the first installment, "murder at the vicarage" is not really that great, but the following discs are awesome. Geraldine McEwan does an excelletn job of portraying Marple. The debate in our family is if she is even better than David Suchet's Poirot!
