It's the same formula, but it works ... - TheShamus
American Chopper has a formula that has worked for four seasons now. For people new to the series, the Paul Teutel Sr owns an iron works which started a side business making custom motorcycles. Paul Jr designs and builds the bikes with the help of an increasing complement of staff and sophisticated equipment.
Many of the bikes are "theme" bikes. Often, the show is split into two episodes. There is usually a "race against time" and a deadline to meet. There is almost also "conflict" between Sr and Jr.
By now, we know this franchise is so rich, the Teutels would not have to be involved in the production of the bikes at all --- but they do their best to play down the fact they are all millionaires!
Once in a while, we get to see the Bike Fabrication against the Metal Works in volleyball or softball.
All of this is just window dressing for viewers who want to see how a fancy motorcycle is made. The other stories help to bring viewership to a show which would otherwise predominently attract the "Gearhead" contingent.
It's a good series ... even if the tooth is getting a little long.
