I still have all of the Asterix comic books, and remember watching the shows when I was younger as well. This movie has some awesome actors, as well as hilarious allusions; i've never watched it in english, only french, and i'm pretty sure you'd miss a fair portion of the jokes in the translation (which is quite unfortunate, but unavoidable). There are also a lot of obscure references to well-known but older french figures (singers or political figures).

I loved the Asterix comic books when I was growing up and have watched animated Asterix movies before but to watch the stories come to life with real actors and actresses is far better. The detail in this film is so accurate you almost forget it isn't the Asterix comic strip. In this one Cleopatra tells Caesar she will have a palace built for him in 3 months and then gets our hero an Architect to do the building. This is impossible so he enlists the help of Asterix, Obelix their Druid and Obelix's dog Idefix. There are plenty of word games just like in the comic book and I found it was very entertaining and funny. I thoroughly enjoyed the movie.
