At Last The 1948 Show
The Classic Series That Preceded And Inspired Monty Python
This historic, wildly silly series triggered a revolution that changed the face of TV comedy forever.
Bursting onto Britain's small screens in an explosion of outrageous and often surreal sketches, At Last The 1948 Show featured John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Marty Feldman and Tim Brooke-Taylor. Produced in 1967, this recently discovered collection launched the Monty Python phenomenon and much like the effect of the Beatles on music, the world of comedy has never been the same.
This 2 DVD set features the recently rediscovered 5 episodes of the classic At Last The 1948 Show series.

Fun, goofy stuff - ShawnConnery
I really enjoyed the many skits of the show. I'm surprised I didn't hear of it before, especially as it was the foundation of Monty Python. It's exactly like Monty Python, except in black and white, and while I didn't find the hostess, Aimee MacDonald, too funny, the actual cast was. The very first episode was the best for me, especially stuff like the man who the snake swallowed and the 4 men in the final skit who are discussing their poverty-stricken pasts. Good if you don't mind old stuff. At Last a Great Comedy Series - Mookie
This is an excellent series full of amazing skits. I found myself amazed by the quality of the skits and the skill of the performers. It is a tragic shame that these are the only tapes of the show that (I believe) was 12 episodes long.
There was not one skit that was a dud. And it was all the more amazing to me because the special that was made after this (but before Python) "How to Irritate People" with many of the same performers, was such a dud.
The one word of warning I have is that the quality of the tape is very poor. But so outstanding is the writing that even with that minus, the comedy shines through.Enjoyable stuff - MovieLover
This show I suppose was the percusor of the Monty Python show--I wish they'd continued with just these 4 because they are so good--in particular it was catastrophic to have left out Feldman for whatever reasons: the replacements were definitely poorer.
The first CD is fun stuff: very well acted, zany humour, almost typically British.
All the 4 actors are very good, each in his own way.
Aimi Macdonald is fairly decent too.
