Empire
The epic event of the year comes to DVD in the mini-series EMPIRE. Complete with unrated and extended scenes, EMPIRE is presented for the first time as a seamless feature. The Roman Empire is plunged into chaos when Julius Caesar is assassinated and his power is passed on to his 18-year-old nephew Octavius. With his guardian, former gladiator Tyrannus, Octavius is forced into exile to escape those who wish to sever Caesar's bloodline permanently. Under Tyrannus' tutelage, Octavius prepares to face off against the treacherous Marc Antony and fulfill his destiny as the leader of Rome. EMPIRE boasts "powerful acting," says the Wall Street Journal, with a hot young cast that includes James Frain (24), Colm Feore, Jonathan Cake, Santiago Cabrera, and Emily Blunt. Filmed entirely in scenic Italy, EMPIRE tells the thrilling story of a hero's rise amidst the greed, intrigue, and lust of ancient Rome.

Not Spartacus - Hize
A made for TV series that is just that. Not really very violent as the times were back then. I didn't dislike it but if this is the type series or show you're looking for then rent Rome or Spartacus. These two are superior to Empire but as stated earlier these two series are on cable with much more money to spend. Overall about 2 and a half stars but if you don't like violence then have a look.enjoyable made for tv miniseries - addictedtomovies
Okay this is not Gladiator or even Alexander, but for those of you who enjoy period pieces then its a good movie. I enjoyed the story and would even watch it again. Not the best but certainly worthwhile as far as scenery, acting and money put into the production. I give it a B.Those of us about to die... - Spike
Good period piece. The costumes are great. The sceneries are CG but they pull it off. If you like Roman history, you might enjoy this series. The director made it a point to be sure they didn't get too much wrong (i.e. putting the coliseum in the movie 100 years before it was actualy built)
Acting is average but it's still entertaining.
