The flash zips his way onto DVD after all these years of being off the air. The flash was a spectacular show there's just no way it could have done better for the 90's. John Wesley Shipp was phenomenal has the flash, you have cast a better person. The revolves around Barry Allen a police scientist who gets struck by lighting and gains the powers of super speed and uses his powers to make a difference in central city. The cast was great and so were the villains, there were no over the top theatrics for the villains and it even had Mark Hamill as a villain. The special effects use for the flash's super speed were spectacular for that time. This show is a must see for super hero fans don't listen to the others, The Flash was a golden hit. It's Not Horrible ... It's Just Not Good. - TheShamus
Enough movies and TV series have been made about Super Heroes to arrive at the conclusion: It is possible to make a good super hero movie if it is done right. However, it is much easier to ruin a good super hero movie. The TV Series, "The Flash" had a lot going against it. First, "The Flash" is one of the lessor known heroes (oh, he's well above "Apache Chief" .. but nowhere near Superman, Batman ... and probably even Aquaman).
Right out of the starting gate, the initial episodes do a lousy job about establishing who, "The Flash" is ... and why we should love him. It's TV ... and while the production values are good for TV ... it's not enough to pull off the show. If the costume was as "cool" as the DVD cover ... it might work ... but instead it looks funny, simple ... those ear things are the worst.
The show was doomed on Thursday nights in the 1990's ... going up agianst, "The Cosby Show". A show like this might work today if HBO or Showtime picked this up -- and made the show grittier ... make the "science" seem more realistic.
In all ... this is not "laughable" ... but it's just not great TV. There are 6 discs to ZIP here. Before you fill up your ZIP list, test drive the first disc to see if you like it.
I would only recommend this show for a trip down memory lane (for the people who have a memory of this show).

PS - Shame on Warner Brothers for not spending a nickel to put any kind of extras ... no text, nothing. Boo.Flash in the Fry Pan - Thanos
Before I trash the Flash series, I suppose we should harken back to what 90's television was like - campy at best - totally out to lunch at the worst. This is the era that gave us Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Fresh Prince, and Full House. So maybe I shouldn't be too hard on the Flash series; however, I can compare to Lois and Clark - the Superman series and find this to be lacking. In the Lois and Clark series, Teri Hatcher and Dean Cain had a good chemistry between them. Meanwhile, the onscreen chemistry and tension between John Welsely Shipp (the Flash or Barry Allen) and Amanda Pays (Tina McGee) was flat and limp with no zip. The only highlight of the series was Mark Hamill as the Trickster, not due to his great performance, but because the voice characterization he used for the Trickster would become the voice for the Joker in the Batman animated series. To conclude, there was a good reason The Flash was only one season long - it had no flash, no zip, no pizazz.
