Amazing Series - renaius
As a rule, I like to start from the beginning of a series. Doctor Who not only breaks that rule, it shatters it. You can completely dismiss the series history from 1963 to 1996 and just start from here without ever needing to wonder "What happened before?" That's what I did and I'm already hooked! Definitely planning to go back and watch the older material soon, but it's not a necessity in any way.Well worth a watch for old fans or new! - prew
All I can say is that after growing up with Dr. Who... I was two when it came on TV for the first time in the UK...that this new re-invention as it where of the series stays very true to the original spirit of the program. Christopher Eccleston, to use his own favourite word, did a "fantastic" job at bridging the old somewhat worn out series and the new one. It's a shame he decided not to carry on for a season or two more, but I understand his proabable reluctance to be typecast in the role as Tom Baker became. Hopefiully David Tennant lasts a bit longer as I think he also is currently doing an excellent job taking over where Chris left off.
Billie Piper is also doing an excellent job as the loyal sidekick, I was a bit worried about here character at first but she plays a terrific foil to the Doctor's intelligence.Eccleston and Piper shine - Alys
Even if you've never seen Doctor Who before, you'll quickly become addicted to this fast-paced and slick production. Amazing scripts from Russell T Davies, Steven Moffatt, Mark Gatiss and others are superbly acted by Christopher Eccleston (28 Days Later, Jude, Shallow Grave) and Billie Piper (best known for her singing career in the UK). Along with the regular cast are some well known British faces: Simon Pegg as the Editor in "The Long Game", Annette Badland as a Slitheen, and Penelope Wilton as Harriet Jones. If that wasn't enough, the appearance of John Barrowman (The Producers) will definitely draw you in.
As a longtime SF fan, but first time Doctor Who viewer, I was impressed, and Christopher Eccleston is my Doctor. He plays the role with depth and emotion, and as a viewer, you're able to relate to him, even though he is an alien. This Doctor is a guilt-ridden survivor of the Time War and his entire experience is coloured by the loss of Gallifrey.
Old enemies and new experiences are the range of this series, including meeting Charles Dickens, the Daleks, the Slitheen, and some very unscrupulous humans. Every episode is exciting!
