The Avengers '62: The Complete Set
The Original British TV Cult Classic
Before Mrs. Emma Peel joined the team and before The Avengers came to America, Mr. Steed (Patrick Macnee) was a familiar figure on the British telly, pursuing his crime-fighting career alongside a shifting cast of sidekicks.
During The Avengers' second season, Steed was busy at work with Dr. Martin King, a beguiling jazz singer named Venus Smith, and the beautiful anthropologist Mrs. Cathy Gale (Honor Blackman). With Cathy onboard, that elusive chemistry was just right, and The Avengers was well on its way to achieving cult phenomenon status.

John Steed works for British Intelligence and always has a female partner. The problems he finds are always a bit odd, just on the edge of science fiction (Cyborg killers, a city built under a disused coal mine, a gang put together for adrenalin junkies, and a killer who uses a concentrated cold virus to kill his victims by having them sneeze to death). Steed is always the ultimate in culture and grace as he saves the world each week. Not perfect, but enjoyable - Lina
I enjoyed the early episodes with Cathy Gale (Emma Peel's predecessor), but found that the episodes on each of these 4 discs were in no particular order, with no Cathy G. to be seen in least one episode per disc. Instead, John Steed's sidekick for the episode would be either Dr. Martin King or Venus Smith (much less enjoyable). I had read comments about poor film and sound quality in the early seasons; the film quality didn't bother me, but I did find the sound quality in some episodes very poor, with the conversation being hard to understand for long stretches. Frustrating when you're sure that the dialogue is up to the usual "Avengers" standard! BTW, the episode "Traitor in Zebra" can be found on disc *3*, not disc 4, of "The Avengers '62: The Complete Set".
