Rome: Season 1
Four hundred years after the founding of the Republic, Rome is the wealthiest city in the world, a cosmopolitan metropolis of one million people; epicenter of a sprawling empire. The Republic was founded on principles of shared power and fierce personal competition, never allowing one man to seize absolute control. But now, those foundations are crumbling, eaten away by corruption and excess. After eight years of war, two soldiers, Lucius Vorenus and Titus Pullo unwittingly become entwined in the historical events of ancient Rome. A serialized drama of love and betrayal, masters and slaves, husbands and wives, Rome chronicles a turbulent era that saw the death of the republic and the birth of an empire.

1) This series is excellent. I love the action, drama, fighting, loving, hand to hand combat, tactics, strategy and the grand game of life or death strugles by men who remain as calm as a cucumber. On tranquilizers. While getting taken care of by a woman.
2) Now that would be a calm vegetable.
3) I never thought I would be envious of a cucumber.Mothers, daughters, brothers, sons and sisters - zipuser12
Rome, Rome, Rome... this season series was a pleasure to watch. Fantastic production, superb acting and images that tell a very interesting story. The plot and subplots are so well presented, and a well crafted character development guides the viewer without manipulation.
Twelve episodes take bring Rome and its decadence to your own home. One can smell the foods, feel with the characters as they love, hate and fight for survival in the field, living rooms, and in the senate.
Not easy to pick a favourite character, all of them are fascinating in their own right. One can admire the earnest moral fibre of Vorenus; also envy the laisse affairs attitude of Pullo; or fear the wicked, calculating cunning of Atia and Sevilia; or empathize with Caesar and Brutus. Each character is multidimentional and complex.
Highly recommended, a must see, and certainly worth repeating.Almost TOO Good - jaydjay
Rome has found the exact combination of historical fact and dramatic fiction. The art direction of the series is so real, dirt and all. The world of Rome is lived in, inhabited and very very real. The writers have created characters so real that they don't ever fall in the "mythical" category, you want to follow them to battle or to bed. As each episodes ends you are reaching for the next to keep you in that world.
