Smallville: Season 5
Clark Kent now carries a full load of classes at Central Kansas U., but that's not all he carries. He carries the full weight of his - perhaps the world's - destiny. "We call this season Superman in Training," series co-creator Alfred Gough says. "Clark is going to accept his destiny." During this exciting pivotal season: The Fortress of Solitude rises. Clark faces rogue Kryptonians. Lex Luthor launches a vicious political campaign. A dark tragedy - one even Clark's powers can't prevent - strikes. These and more key elements of Superman lore fall into place. The future Man of Steel grows another year bolder in this bonus-packed Deluxe 6-Disc DVD Set.

Not Bad. - filmgeek
This is a very entertaining, yet formulaic and redundant show. It has almost as many bad points as it does good points.
This is not to say that the show is not watchable, it most certainly is. It just has more than its fair share of problems.
If you enjoy the character of Superman, you could do a lot worse.
On the plus side, this has got to be the most interesting and entertaining depiction of Lex Luthor ever put on the screen.

This series by far out weights any I have ever seen. By far my most favorite, not only are Tom Wellings, Micheal Rosenbaum and the new-intro Oliver Queen the most studly men on this show, they are the most talented actors as well. This show has made the Superman personna more spectacular then any movie producer could even attempt. Alongside the new saga Superman Returns, these 2 are by far the best written TV showsBy far and away, the best year of the series - Rashkae
I was leary buying this box set after Season 4, which, despite a few excellent episodes, was a very disapoiting year.. I really thought Smallville had jumped the shark... Oh how wrong I was.
Season 5 has taken great care to avoid any gripes I might have had with previous years. The quality of writing, continuity acting and special effects have all gone through the roof. The holiday specials are very tongue in cheek, but still enjoyable. The rest of the series back a very hard punch.. This is what Superman could have been if he wasn't a comic book character!
Some people might not like the excessive fan service, which has also gone through the roof.
