SCTV: Best of the Early Years
SCTV's best half-hour episodes from 1978-1980 are showcased in this 3-DVD collection. From its humble beginnings in 1976, SCTV transformed from a half-hour comedy airing monthly in Canada on the Global Television Network to a widely embraced series that, by the third season, was airing weekly on the CBC and syndicated in the U.S.
Guy Caballero and Edith Prickley were born in the early years. The McKenzie Brothers started here. Earl Camembert, Floyd Robertson, Johnny LaRue, Sammy Maudlin and Bobby Bittman—characters destined to become household names—were first beamed into consciousness here.

Hit and Miss - rnhaas
This is very hit and miss but when they score it is fantastic. The Midnight Express is possibly the highlight of these early years, for an episode-length piece anyway. Although Big Brother is also pretty good. Other highlights include the Monster Chiller Horror Theatre-Dick Cavet skit and most of what Rick Moranis does (I grew up with Moranis as the Honey I Shrunk the Kids hack and I am continually amazed at how funny he was back in the day).Rosato and Levy as Abbott and Costello is Priceless - xfactor3000
This set has my all time favorite SCTV skit, with Rosato and Levy doing a fabulously funny Abbott and Costello in "The Midnight Express Special". It's one of the only skits (that and of course Candy's Johnny LaRue, "I'm not gay!") I remember from first viewing originally on US TV, it's just so hilariously funny. The whole set here is awesome, from "The Silly Bastard" to the "Cavett-Bittman" interview, I give all the material here a solid five of five (I blew through all 3 discs in two days it was sooo good); but because its only 15 episodes, and not the complete seasons, I have to give it a 4. It's this kind of video distribution that drives the "collector's" market. Get with it, whoever is distributing this show! We want each season put out in total! The early episodes are holding up great for a baby boomer like me that caught this show on late night after Saturday Night Live in the 70's to early 80's!
