This was a great TV show. Unique concept, physical comedy and oddball humour that's good for some laughs. It's even more fun to watch years later to check out all the "high tech" devices, like the classic shoe phone. This is definitely worth checking out and, unlike many modern TV shows, it's safe to watch with your kids!not as smart as before - paddyboy
I have just watched season 1 disk 1 of Get Smart. This was one of my favorite shows when originaly shown. The lineup of gadgets was an obvious spoof on James Bond. Even the occasional super criminals were present. Barbara Feldon was excellent as the slinky, beautiful agent opposit Don Adams. Her patience with Max's screw-ups was well played. The continually frustrated chief was also an integral part. As with many of these older comedies, some of the plots would be rejected as politically incorrect today, e.g. Washington 4, Indians 3. This was refreshing compared to today's comedy programs. I did not find Get Smart offensive in any way.
However, I now find that this sort of slapstick is too repetitive and becomes somewhat tiresome after awhile. Never the less, I have kept the next disk on my zip list for future viewing. Perhaps i need to allow sufficient time between viewings to really appreciate them. Compared to today's comedies, these are excellent.Smart and Funny! - OlPappy
If you rent this title, you will be faced with danger, humour, romance, and suspense ... and loving it. Each episode is introduced by Barbara Feldon (99 - possibly now her actual age)and she provides the highlights including special guest stars, famous directors, etc. The commentaries by Buck Henry and Mel Brooks on the pilot are also worth listening to for the insight into how the show was created. I would definitely give this 5 stars ... or would you believe 4 stars ... or how about 1 star and strong recommendation for a rainy day.
