St. Elsewhere: Season 1
Over its six-season run, the ground-breaking, critically acclaimed St. Elsewhere was nominated for over 60 Emmy Awards, winning 13 of them! This remarkable series, paved the way for later TV classics such as E.R. and Chicago Hope, while introducing America to future superstars Mark Harmon, Howie Mandel, and Oscar-winner Denzel Washington. Eccentric, insightful, and intelligent, St. Elsewhere is considered to be one of the best dramas ever to air on broadcast television.

Just look at the cast - Chucky
This Hospital drama was easily one of the best things on television in its day. With a cast that went their seperate ways, by and large to successful movie or small screen success, it's little wonder. Personally, I enjoyed watching it again. If you like ER or Chicogo Hope, try this oneOne Of The Best Medical Dramas Ever - graveheart001
I'd disagree with these other reviewers.
This was one sadly beautiful series- strong storylines, solid characters, and great cast. Sure, it's a bit dated, but watching the personalities evolve is a pleasure. ER, Chicago Hope, House, and Grey's Anatomy aren't in the same class as this show. St.Elsewhere's characters are dedicated, flawed individuals who you end up caring for with all their struggles. (The same cannot be said about those other shallow series.) It's terribly sad, darkly humorous, and deeply textured. What makes St.Elsewhere great is it's subtlety. It never treats the viewer as a child needing glitz, or flash to tell it's story.
Season one is a little more disjointed than the following years, but seeing the origins of all the characters is worth the wait. The series gets stronger, and stronger with each episode. Speaking of which- WHEN WILL SEASON 2 BE AVAILABLE?!?! St.Elsewhere gets my highest recommendation. Not the good stuff. - kolyma
Season One was the weakest of the lot. There are good bits to be found : William Daniels is off to a flying start, Ed Flanders & Norman Lloyd & others are there, but there's also a lot of hard-to-stomach sappy stuff involving the patients. Only the James Coco or David Birney aficionado
will need to check this out.
Season Two is where St.Elsewhere truly began to be good.
