It is nice to see Christopher Lee in this movie. When I first saw the movie, I had no idea who he was; now that I do, this movie is far more enjoyable. I still rate it as the second-worst classic film (ie pre-Brosnan), but it has its moments. Who hasn't eaten critical evidence and then had to go buy a laxative to get it back in a timely manner?A Touch Too Brassy - Squish
I've grown to have some expectations based on what I've known is possible, and The Man With The Golden Gun doesn't really have the epic action or the oddball characters I've grown to appeciate from 007 films. And yes, I know it's supposed to be campy, but this degree of yokel dips this film into the schlock department:
Looooziana Sherriff Peppah is back spitting his wad of tabakky juice and his ripe comedic blatant racism. When 007 needs to engage in a car chase to follow the people who kidnapped the as-yet-unbedded Bond Girl, Pepper absolutely needs to tag along, lending an extra 350 pounds of mass to the AMC Hornet Bond drives to chase her down with. What could have been an exciting car chase that climaxes into an aerial corkscrew across a broken bridge ends up being absolutely molested when the stunning slow motion stunt is accompanied by the glorious and engaging sound effect… of a slide whistle.
These strange directorial decisions lend to what could have been a fight with a true nemesis into nothing more than bond taking down yet another goofy guy.One of my favorite Roger Moore entry - Coconut_Willy
What's with all these bad reviews? People seem to say that this is too formulaic... well this is the ninth installment so it's kind of obvious where it's going. The storyline is as good as any. It's true that a lot of the development is a bit predictable but at this point, the main goal of a James Bond movie is to surpass everything else on the spectacular action front. And it sure does in this one. The sets and locations have to be the best to date with incredible South-East Asia scenery. The soundtrack is again very good and the camera work is great. The cast is also very good doing a fine acting job with a good enough dialogue. Scaramanga and Knick-Knack are excellent villains and the supporting cast all do a fine job. The actions scenes here are of the highest standards. The ironic side of Bond continues to be showcased well by Moore while the not even credible womanizing side is still being pushed further. Overall, a very good installment that I would recommend to all men as I can't see how women could enjoy such a sexist movie...
