Gene Simmons: Family Jewels - Season 1
Kiss Your Expectations Goodbye
The new real-life A&E family series Gene Simmons: Family Jewels steps into the home of the legendary, tongue-wagging rocker demon of KISS and Shannon Tweed, former Playmate of the Year, actress, model and mom. Gene and Shannon have been happily UNmarried for 23 years and have no plans to get married anytime soon. And their kids, Nick and Sophie, are surprisingly charming, well-behaved teenagers dealing with the trials and tribulations of adolescence, even though Mom and Dad are like no one else's parents on earth. Yes, Gene is a world-famous rock star and multi-media magnate, but he's also the kind of dad who brings Gatorade to his daughter's soccer games and stands in the front row of his son?s rock band when they play gigs.
Gene Simmons: Family Jewels - Season 1 reveals a side of Gene that he has kept hidden from the world at large until now, and shows how the most non-traditional family in America manages to make normal life work under the oddest of circumstances.

Gene Simmons.. never though I would say I was a fan. But coming across this show one rainy afternoon with no books to read and nothing else on TV to watch, I settled in for a "Family Jewels" marathon. And it was well worth it!
Lame? Scripted? Old age celebrities? WHO CARES! They're not trying to anything but entertain me for 30 minutes at a time. And okay they make money, but serious, who care as long as I'm getting something out of it.
The only way I have come to explain the Tweed-Simmons family is "Strangely-Normal". I never thought I would consider a celebrity and their family in any way normal but they really do pull it off.
So if you have a Sunday afternoon you have to kill, seriously rent this and spend the day with your feet up, you'll be happy you did!"Im boss", except when Shannon tells me to do something I do it" - Manuel
Gene Simmons of Kiss along with his family un-married but together for over 20 years Gene doesnt want to hear that word: 7 letters and it starts with "w" and ends with "g". Along with his 2 children, Gene allows cameras in his magnificient house and shows whats life like under the soft side of the "demon". Whether is being protective of his daughter, Sophie, or getting a music gig for hs son Nick, to generating new buisness ventures which almost always involve women and more women and thats all I can say. Gene even lets us see is mother who in her house has a dedicated room to Gene's and Shannon's accomplishments from his Kiss fame as well as the movie he played evil Dr. Luther in Runaway with Tom Sellick (watch for the spider robot). Gene also has one of the spider robots in his office. I like the Osbornes but at times I would miss an episode and wouldn't care however, Family Jewels is funnier, entertaining, and can't miss it when it's on. Gene's classic remark after the opening song is: I tell people what to do, except well Shannon because she tells me to do something and I'll do it. Great show! It's Called Entertainment Folks - Dr_Talk
Reality shows started out as what we all thought would be a short-lived fad. Look at it now. I ask you, do we really need 100 different variations of "Survivor" series? However, Family Jewels falls into a slightly different category. Remember the Osbournes? Granted it took a little to let it grow on you, what with the profanity and portrayal of their day to day life. But it wasn't long before the show was embraced by millions. It was a novelty to see the "real" Ozzy and his family and all the behind the scenes stuff that went on. Family Jewels is exactly the same thing. Take one huge rock icon, put a bunch of cameras in his house and record everything they say and do and put it on TV. It's like the ultimate backstage pass!
People have & always will be fascinated by the lives of celebrities. They're rich, powerful, eccentric and make up the social elite. It doesn't even matter what the show is about, if you walk away feeling entertained, then the cast, crew & creators of the show have done their job. That's called entertainment folks. It's even more entertaining with a character like Gene Simmons who is worshiped as a rock God by millions of fans world wide. Family Jewels shows us that the blood-spitting, fire-breathing demon we know from stage is actually a loving father and "un-husband". This is a side we would never have seen if it weren't for this show.
Simply put, I like the show...quite a bit. I do not however see it going on for 9 seasons. It IS a fad and would be best retired from our TVs when it reaches it's peak. Otherwise anything put out after it's peak will be sub par.
